Differences between single cylinder and multi cylinder engines

Single cylinder engine

Single cylinder engine is the simplest of all engines. It has only one cylinder and is the basic form of engine. When the single cylinder engine is working, the mixture in the cylinder is ignited and burned once every revolution (two strokes) or two revolutions (four strokes) of the crankshaft.

From the sound and vibration, it can be clearly felt that the engine is working intermittently, and the exhaust is also a "sudden" intermittent sound.

Comparison with multi cylinder engine

Compared with the multi cylinder engine with the same displacement, the single cylinder engine has only one set of parts in operation, so the inertial force of the moving parts can not be offset, so the vibration is large. The higher the speed, the more obvious the problem is.

In addition, the size of the moving parts of the single cylinder engine is relatively large, which is not conducive to the increase of the engine speed, and it becomes more and more obvious with the increase of the engine displacement.

Therefore, the larger the displacement of the single cylinder engine, the smaller the lifting power, but the stronger the pulse of the single cylinder engine.
