What is HP ( Horse power )?

Horsepower is a commonly used unit to measure power in engineering technology.

Proposed by James Watt. One horsepower equals approximately 735 watts. It generally refers to metric horsepower rather than British horsepower. One horsepower is equal to completing 75 KGF · m work in one second, which is also equal to 0.735 kW, or metric horsepower.

1 British horsepower is equal to 550 ft · LBF / s and 76 KGF · M / s, i.e. 0.746 kW. Among the legal units of measurement in China, the unit of power is watt.

"Horsepower" is a power unit. The word "horsepower" is often written on diesel engines and steam turbines. How does horsepower come about?

More than 200 years ago, engineers built the world's first batch of improved steam engines according to the design of British James Watt. A brewery ordered one to replace the horse to pull the water pump. The brewery owner wanted to make sure that the steam engine was as efficient as a horse.

So he chose the strongest horse from his herd and let it work without feet for eight hours. After conversion, it is concluded that a horse can increase 75 kg of water by 1 meter per second, that is, 1 horsepower = 75 KGF · M / s. Since then, it has been used as the power unit of power machinery until today.
